WHAT ARE YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS?

For the past few years I have been trying to be better about remembering birthdays.  Not always great at it, but I am trying.  My mom gave me a perpetual calendar to keep up with them and it is a great help.
 
You can purchase these type calendars, but they are super easy to make with you computer printer and some free downloadable forms. You'll find several links here with complete instructions.

In this day of technology you can always use you smart phone to keep up with these important dates as well.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know the color of the closure on your bread will tell you how fresh it is?  Yep bread is delivered 5 days a week.  So the color tie or tab coincides with those days.  

• Monday - Blue
• Tuesday - Green
• Thursday - Red
• Friday - White
• Saturday - Yellow

My great aunt told me this years ago, but I had forgotten it until I saw it again just a few days ago.

WHAT ARE YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS?

Starting the new year off fresh is always on every ones list.  And sometimes you have to search for fresh underneath the piles or small stacks of clutter.  So to put it in perspective I have found some inspiration from a few people.

#1 - You have gotta get rid of some stuff.  This is hard for most, even me.  I love my stuff, even if I haven't used it in 10 years, lol.  But you have gotta do it.  Do it in small increments, it hurts less then.  Bec gave herself 40 days to get rid of 40 bags of stuff.  Your bag size doesn't matter.  It can be a garbage bag one day and a grocery sack the next as long as your tossing or donating.

#2 - After you bag you can easily organize your stuff now that there is less of it.  Set a schedule to do small amounts every day.

#3 - While you are doing both of the above you can clean as you go.  Dusting or what have you since you're there anyway.  I learned from The FlyLady that it's not going to get done overnight.  So take baby steps to establish new routines.

WHAT ARE YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS?

I love to decorate for Christmas.  I hate to put all the decorations away!  I have a vast collection of storage boxes, crates, wreath keepers, etc.  You name it I've probably tried it at least once.  I like all of my plastic ornament boxes, but have never really loved them, because you can't remove a whole layer at a time to see what is in the middle of the the 2nd or 3rd layer.  But I have found a remedy to it, Woo Hoo!!!

A lot of my plastic storage already has cardboard, but when I saw this with the individual cup for each ornament glued to the cardboard.  I was ecstatic.  Why didn't I think of that?  So I have spent a little time today and yesterday gluing 9 oz punch cups (on sale BOGO at Party City right now) onto the cardboard layers and I am ready to pack Christmas ornaments away safely and they will be ready for me next year.

WHAT ARE YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS?

I'm sure you have at least 1 or 2 maybe more to make for the coming year.  So I thought I would hit some of the top resolutions that pop up every year and put the Coupon Chix money saving twist to it.

So many resolve to be more organized in the coming year.  Since we are just coming off the big gift wrapping season, I thought we could start there.  Here are a few ways to organize your wrapping paper, ribbon, tape, tags . . . you get the picture.

First for the least expensive

This is simply 2 pieces of wire or string and 4 eye screws placed in a closet.  Since you might have some of these supplies lying around this should be less than $1.

Second is a similar concept, taking advantage of vertical storage space instead of prime floor space

Staying with the wire/string and eye screws concept, this only requires one set of screws and adds the clips to hang them on the single line.  Making this a great addition to #1 continuing up the wall.

Thirdly a simple waste paper basket makes for a handy holder put it on wheels makes it portable to wherever you may need to wrap.

Depending on where you purchase your basket this could easily be done for less than $10.

Finally you can go with the ready to go organizers from any home improvement center or big box store.

With just a little re-purposing, like using a foil or plastic wrap holder for the wrapping paper and a large behind the door organizer for your ribbons, tissue and bags.  You will be good to go.  Cost will vary on this, depending on where you purchase your racks, but it should run you $20-$25.

Make your efforts toward your resolutions simple and quick and you will be more likely to stick with it.  If it takes you more that 15 minutes at a time to do it, you will most likely think that it is to time consuming and give up on it.  But if you can start with that 15 minutes each time and do it for 20 days in a row you will have formed a new routine and be more likely to stick with it.
